These should get you drooling like a Great Dane. The proto-type is a one of a kind piece that was made for approval for the Govenment contract for the Mark1.This is not a fake or put together fantasy piece constructed by some dreamer. I worked for Oneida LTD.(OCL) for 37 years. This one serviving knife was given to me by a long deceased VP of the Co.The others I picked up around town as they were brought home in the lunch pails of the workers back in the good old days.Comments welcome.Pony

Here are a few of mine....run of the mill, rare extra pyramid 1917 style. The OCL ones are VERY nice and rare. Love them, thanks for showing!

ponyradish,

Thanks for sharing these wonderful knives. Is the prototype marked in anyway?

No markings on the proto.Just an honest find right out of the factory. To my knowledge it is the only one in exsistance.OCL was horrible at record keeping and threw out unbelieveable stuff as the years went by.They had all kinds of war contracts during WW1 and 2.Everything from Parachute buckles (I have some) to A3O3 gun sights, bomb schackles, jet blades, hand grenades, aircraft parts etc.The famous OCL Mark1 was never issued, they made less than 2000 and most of those went home in lunch pails.I'm always on the hunt.Pony.

Very nice knives.Anytime you can put a couple of these away you can't lose.I had two OCL Mark1's and traded one off years ago for a stone mint V-42.That's another rare bird in any condition.Pony.

Ponyradish,

Its funny, but the OCL mark 1s theoretically should be far scarcer than the HDS version, yet I have seen three OCLs in the last year, and not an HDS in sight!

Its probably because I am looking for one... disgust.gif

If you saw three OCL Mark I's in one year that's unheard of.I live two miles from where they made them and have only seen four complete originals in forty years.I wanna live where you do.Pony.

ponyradish,

I should have clarified... It isn't that I walked into a junk shop in Kerrville TX and there were three of them sitting on a shelf. I just know a lot of the big dealers, and to add all the OCL Mk1s I saw up; I have one, there was one posted here on the board last year, and a dealer friend offered me one, but it wasn't cheap, and since I already had one (which I bought in 2006) I passed. I've been looking for a HD&S one for 27 years, and haven't even had a chance at one. My point is that theoretically, the OCL should be far far rarer than the HD&S. Yet, in one year, three have shown up, and one was even on the market. I guess I was just musing about wishing I could find an HD&S

Still, your OCL is a fantastic knife! Thanks for sharing it here.
