Picked this up this past weekend, real nice medal grouping with post WW1 VFW pins. The dogtags are for a one H.L. Summers supply Sgt 23rd Engineers. The little castle patch is pretty neat as well, the victory medal has the Meuse-Argonne bar as it should for this unit. Now to hit the green books and see if he was from Ohio.

Interesting group.

I'd love to see that interesting looking medal.

Is it fraternal ?

I'll get a closeup of it, yes its some sort of fraternal cross/pin.

The symbol is associated with Freemasonry, specifically the Knights Templar branch of Freemasonry.

I could be wrong, but I think the castle patch is for the Corps of Engineers.

Fritz,

I recently purchased a book for the AEF 23rd Engineers Regimental Roster. My grandfather served with Company F in France from March 30, 1918 through June 16, 1919 according to digital archives. My grandfather is listed in the book as well as H.L. Summers. His first name is Herbert and he is listed address is 414 Center St., Findlay, Ohio. His regimental company code listed is Mt. Tr. and Hq. I believe that refers to Mounted, Train and Head Quarters. Hope you find this helpful.

There is a Whaley, Harry W listed in Company E with an address of 3010 Frazier St., Covington, KY. If you want to find more information on your grandfather, I would suggest you visit Fold3 web site and search the WW1 era. This will provide you with your grandfathers military number, the ships he went to and from France on as well as the date of sailing and date of port entry. The 23rd Engineer regiment had two major sailings from US to Brest France and four major sailings back to US Hoboken, NJ on return. There were stragglers that went to and from France on other ships from this regiment. Hope this adds to your research.
