Another Iwo Jima Vet Service Coat Discovery

I don't know about ebay but in the last few weeks there has been dozens of service coats listed.

Trolling ebay last night and I came across this Buy It Now auction of a WWII USMC Service coat.

Turns out this marine was a cook in Company C 2nd 155MM Howitzer Battalion which served at the battle of Iwo Jima.

According to Amphibious Epic the 2nd Howitzer was attached to the 5th Marine Division during the battle landing at Red Beach. Company C was the only Company from the 2nd Howitzer to land and get in position supporting the 5th Marine Division on the first few days of the landing.

What is historic about their landing was they were brought to Iwo on LST-779, the ship that provided the 2nd flag for the historic flag raising on Mt Suribachi.

Looks like the FMF patch and rank were taken off the jacket, so it looks like another restoration project.

Looking forward to getting the records on this one.
