notinfringed Posted February 4, 2008 Share #1 Posted February 4, 2008 My grandmother sent this pamphlet to her sister to try to get her to join. My grandmother was joining, and she wanted her sister to go with her. My great aunt did end up getting into nursing as well, but not until the seventies. My Grandmother graduated from the program just after the war. She did her training at Good Samaritan Hospital in Phoenix, Arizona.

Bob Hudson Posted February 4, 2008 Share #4 Posted February 4, 2008 Thanks for sharing. That was part of the United States Public Health Service and the former members have no veteran status but do get federal civil service credit. Legislation to grant them veteran's status failed. notinfringed Posted September 9, 2010 Author Share #5 Posted September 9, 2010 My mom sent me a scan of a picture of my grandma in her uniform. It's not the greatest picture, but I figured I would share it anyway.
fortworthgal Posted September 9, 2010 Share #6 Posted September 9, 2010 Very neat! Cadet Nurse stuff is one of the rarer ones to find, you just don't see many photographs or uniforms.A few years ago at an estate sale I found a few original CNC photos, from a local hospital where I surmise the ladies were trained. I searched the entire house in hopes of finding a uniform or something else, but no dice. Here are a couple of the pics I found. The class photo is quite similar to your grandma's.Cadet Nurses at St. Joseph's Hospital in Fort Worth, Texas, in 1944.EDIT: Photo lost
notinfringed Posted October 2, 2010 Author Share #7 Posted October 2, 2010 I won this on Ebay a week or so ago. I may have over paid for it, but I just had to have it. My grandma was in town when it arrived in the mail, so I got to show it to her, and ask her about it. She said that it was just like the one she wore. This is of course the "summer" uniform. I asked her if they wore patches on theirs, because I have seen some for sale with the Cadet Nurse Corp patch on the left sleeve. She said she couldn't remember exactly, but she thinks they only wore a patch on the Winter uniform where she was (Arizona). She also gave me the flier that is posted above :w00t: . Anyway, Here are some Pictures: Thanks for looking Levi

To be a flight attendant in the military you had to be a nurse. Guess who became the first flight nurses when they needed them.

Fact is, I FINALLY scored one myself to add to my nurse uniforms and it is currently on the way here. Tom
