USMCRECON Posted February 3, 2008 Share #1 Posted February 3, 2008 ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- While reading the horror story about DevilDan1900 in the fakes section, I came across a comment about a print of Dan Daly he had on his wall by D. D. Moore. That got me thinking about a D. D. Moore print that I have. While the print (pictured below) is just a print, it has a rather interesting and humorous story related to its acquisition. About 10 years ago, a friend of my wife's, who was an avid yard-saler, called me from her cell phone one Saturday morning. She said that, knowing that I collect uniforms, military art, and such, she was wondering if I wanted a picture of Douglas MacArthur that she found at a sale. She said she could get it for $5.00 if I wanted it and I told her...sure. When she brought it around I took one look at it and said, "That's not Gen MacArthur; that's Chesty Puller." She started apologizing profusely and told me I didn't have to take it but I stopped her in mid-sentence. I relieved her anxiety by telling her that Chesty is better than MacArthur any day (in my humble opinion, of course ) and it was a great find! The print is from a pencil or charcoal drawing of Chesty, made from a very famous photo of him at Koto-ri during the Chosin Reservoir campaign. It was in a really crappy frame but I re-mounted it in the antique oak frame that you see it in with an acid-free backing and it's been hanging in a place of honor down in my "museum room" ever since.
