I know many of us millitaria collectors are either in the service or are veterans, but what is your military service lineage?

I am a Marine, with two uncles who were marines. My father was in the Army and Navy. Both of my Grandfathers were in WWII. One in the Marines the other in the army. I had at least 12 Great Uncles who were in WWII. Four Great Uncles in WWI, and one in the Spanish American War. My Great-Grand uncle was Major General Joel B Paris, P-38 Ace of the Pacific Thearte. I know of 4 decendents who were in the Civil War, (one of them was Major General Frances Barlow, Commander of the NY regiment at Little Round Top)I have at least 12 Decendents that were in the Revolutionary War, with one as a Captain and one as a Brigadier General. I also have in my family two known veterans of the French and Indian War, with one as a Captain, and one veteran that was a LT in King Phillips' War.

I would be interested to know others family military herritage

On the paternal side:

Great Grandfather - 2Lt, deserted from the 120th USCT during the Civil War

Grandfather - Colonel, USAR. Successfully defended Arkansas from the Hun in WWI

Father - LT(jg), US Maritime Service. Engineering Officer on North Atlantic convoys; training officer at Sheepshead Bay

Self - Major, USAF (1969-1989). Targeting officer

On the maternal side:

Grandfather - Pvt, 8th New York Infantry, Spanish-American War

(Earlier generations probably served the Hessian crown in some undistinguished manner)

Five of my father's brothers served in WWII (four Army, one Navy). In a Chicago Tribune story on my grandmother, her five sons in the service were mentioned with photos (all were in non-combat positions). Her sixth son, my father, was at sea between New York and Liverpool when the article was published, but he was not mentioned as he was not considered "in service". C'est la guerre!

On my father's side:

My father was a Staff Sergeant in Troop B, 18th Mechanized Recon. Squadron during WW II.

His father served in the 16th Division of the Italian Army from 1909 - 1911. He immigrated to the U.S. in 1913.

On my mother's side:

My mother had two brothers who served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. One of them served as a radarman on the USS Arkansas; I don't know what the other did during the war.

My grandfather served as a Fireman on the USS Seattle, an armored cruiser during World War I. His brother served on the USS Nopatin, a civilian liner converted into a supply ship.

My g-g- grandfather served in the Mississippi Militia in 1864. His two brothers served in the 38th Mississippi Infantry - one died of disease and the other was wounded at the battle of Harrisburg, Mississippi, July 14, 1864.

My g-g-g- grandfather was the Captain of Company A, 3rd Mississippi Cavalry, State Troops. He survived the war only to die in a railroad accident in 1870.

My g-g-g-g grandfather served in the Chester County Pennsylvania Militia during the Revolutionary War.

Another g-g-g-g grandfather served in the 7th Company, 2nd Connecticut Regiment. He was killed at Lake Champlain on September 20, 1758.

And one of my favorites, my 6x great grandfather, Antoine Desasure Perronette De Crocketagne, served in the household guards of King Louis XIV of France. He was granted a commission in 1664, and resigned in 1669 when he got married. He was a Huguenot, and had to flee France with his family in 1672 when the Huguenots were expelled from the country.

Gregory- Yes that's the one! I have an old photo of him in a turn of thr centruy uniform which always puzzled us since we knew he served during WWI. After many years of searching his name turned up on the rolls of Haller's Army (misspelled!) I am sending in to the Polish Geneological Society of America for his enlistment record. We'll see what happens!

From my French family:

Father's side:

- one great great uncle and my great grand father KIA in World War One (131st Infantry Regiment and Trench Artillery)

- one great great uncle served in the 103rd Heavy Artillery Regiment in WW1 and later adopted my orphan grandfather.

- one great uncle served in the Medical Corps between the wars and probably a few weeks in WW2

- my grandfather was an Air Force pilot and reportedly flew missions over Germany with the Royal Air Force (I am still researching this)

- an uncle was a reservist in the Infanterie de Marine in the 1970s

- my father was a draftee in the French Army in Germany in 1972

Mother's side

- my grandfather served in the Chasseurs Alpins and fought against the Italians in the Alpes in 1940

And I was myself one of the last draftees before the draft was abolished, serving in the French Air Force in 1996 (on the former USAF base of Toul-Rozieres), but I was medically discharged after a few weeks (asthma); nothing to brag about

One grandfather served in a horse-drawn artillery unit in the 1940 Belgian Army (He only had a stick to make the horse run faster, only 100 rifles for 300 men).

He was captured and spent a few weeks in a PoW camp.

Was later forced to work on the German occupied airfield of Chièvres, Belgium.

My other grandfather didn't serve in the Belgian Army, but served in the US Army from April to June 1945 (Labor Supervision Company).

One uncle was in the Belgian Resistance as a messenger. Although that this is not military, I am proud of this and it is worth mentioning it.

I believe one of my ancestors served in the Grande Armée of Napoleon, but need to check that with my aunt as she's into that heritage stuff.

As for me ......
