So, I was watching some things on ebay and they went pretty high so I was wondering who got them and what you all think of the items and prices. The first link is a 4th mardiv uniform with a BS ribbon. I was not able to find anything on the McDaniel or if he was awarded the Bronze Star. I was unable to copy any of these photos - if anyone can copy at least one for ref. purposes, please add it here.

The second link to the Japanese sword and 1st mardiv uniform group is interesting but the seller didn't state the owner's name so it makes me wonder? it still went for good money wihout a name being given upfront.

I am not going to comment on the 1st grouping but I don't think that the 4th Division group went for high at all. Actually, I would say it went cheap. Just my 2 cents.

I had seen this and figured with the shoes it would go well above $250.Original shoes are hard to get with a USMC uniform plus a bronze star and if its traceable........

I watched this as well and took as pass on grouping 2. I need to have the markings in the jacket to spend that kind of money. Too much of a risk of somebody piecing this together, but If something good came out for the buyer where everything matches then more power to them!

That is the second 4th Mar Div blouse that I have seen with a Philippine Liberation medal. I have a 4th blouse with that ribbon. I don't understand this, since the 4th never liberated PI. I'm probably missing something. I also passed on that group since there was no name in the blouse. I know the cover was named...but it seemed to risky to me.

Yep, I concur - even with that group included, I cannot pay that much for an unnamed uniform.

Here were 2 nice ones that sold not too long ago - hope someone here got them!?

Here was a nice uniform group that was split up by the seller on the ebay. Sold for a solid #. The 3rd MarDiv uniform sold for $382.50. Too expensive for me. But he was a Scout Observer which in WW2 was an Arty Forward Observer, I believe. Lots of other Maps of Guam and Iwo too in the seller's listings. Maybe he is a member here, I don't know. Marine's name was Kunkel.

Seller's description:

I figured it was the shoes that brought the price up.

That sword could be worth more than the selling price.

I never get much more than 120-30 for a Marine uniform.

I'm the one who bid it up that high, If I would have sniped it it would have been mine but my phone was acting up and I was having trouble bidding.

The Iwo map sold for $498. The person I was bidding against really wanted those items.

But I have some good news.

I won the patch, ega, silk shell burst parachute, Japanese weapons manuel, and both the medals.

Essentially I won his medal grouping although it was only two medals this is my first named medal grouping and most importantly my first medal grouping from an Iwo vet.

The seller will be sending me some pictures of her father in the uniform as well as some other paperwork she said she had. Package was sent today so I'll update everyone next week.

I wish I could have won that uniform but I have a nice date tomorrow and I actually want to have some cash for it!

Leonardo, glad you got what you did. I wonder who got the jacket? It was nice but really a shame all that got broken up. I hope you will share pics when you receive those medals.

We'll know one day if they post here.

It seems everything went to only three people so there's a good chance there could be a reunion one day.

Yes I will post pictures as soon as I get them.

I figured that was you bidding uplandmod  Luck was on my side this time or my max bid was higher lol

Anyways I was able to snag the uniform, intel book, military symbols book, machine gunner book, and both covers. Glad some of the other stuff went to a forum member. It would have taken a lot of cash to keep that group together. She also told me she would send some pictures and documents. I already sent away for his file and I am really curious about what will come back.

Robert M. Kunkel was in H&S company 9th Marines 3rd Marine division. MOS 636 scout and observer R-2. Does anybody know what the R-2 means on the muster roll?

Andrew, glad you got the uniform and the other items. The MOS and combat experience makes that a valuable uniform. Please publish a thread on him when you get the items and the docs!

Just a guess but I'm thinking at some point he was in the HQ of the Regimental 2 shop...or Regimental Intelligence section. Would make sense with the pubs he had.

Please let us know. I for one am curious about his duties.

here's one that ended tonight but the name was no released during the auction. Whoever got it, please let us know if he got the Silver Star.

WW2 United States Maine Corps wool dress blues (jacket, pants and cover). This uniform is from a 3rd Marine Division (Iwo Jima, Bouganville and Guam) veteran. Jacket size is a 36 regular, pants are a size 29 waist. Fine overall condition. One tiny moth bite just above the ribbon bar. Pants have a small repair on the right leg, about knee height, next to the stripe. Upper ribbon bar has a retainer missing on the back side. Buttons appear to be Bronze. One service stripe has a small worn area on the edge. One button is detached, and will need to be sewn back on. Sharpshooter Medal is marked: Sterling. This Marine served through the Southeast Asian Conflict, leaving the Corps in the 1980's. Ribbons include The Marine Corps Good Conduct Medal, The American Campaign Medal, The American Defense Medal, The Marine Corps Commendation Medal, and The Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal. I cannot identify the center ribbon on the top bar. Satisfaction guaranteed! I will combine shipping on all my eBay items, and I ship Worldwide! (EXCEPT TO COMMUNIST CHINA!)

I saw it but I already bought another Iwo Jima dress blues a few days earlier (my first!).

If I had the cash I would have asked him about if he knew at least what battalion he was in and if would do a full refund if it's not what I was looking for. Make him realize that there is a lot of work on his side if it doesn't check out.

I don't trust a dealer who is secretive about details that should be made to buyer who is willing to spend lots of mOney on a product. Also I just think that 3rd division patch is way to far from the chevrons.

Hopefully it chEcks out to the buyer and it's a good buy.
