Some of these may have been taken when FDR arrived in Morocco by ship on 14 Jan 1943 for the Casablanca Conference.

OK I clearly misjudged the timing of these by several months. This is in Castelvetrano, Sicily (when he was on his way back from the Teheran Conference) on December 8, 1943. He decorated Clark with a DSC. FDR was only there for 90 minutes or so - these are great snapshots of that day!

Admiral is most likely Leahy - FDRs Chief of Staff.

Others with him that flight were Eisenhower, Spaatz, Admirals Brown and McIntire, Gen. Watson, Maj. gen Bedell Smith. At Sicily were Patton, Clark, perhaps Arnold.

Hope this helps.

Any idea why Eddie Rickenbacker was there?

Firstly -- he promoted various techniques of the USAAF pilots education and training (in the gliders among others)

Secondly -- he took part in great number of the USAAF and aviation industry events.

He was a "general purpose" consultant then for the USAAF.
