Two shots from the December 1944 released movie Hollywood Canteen, Dane Clarke and Robert Hutton two wounded vets home from the Pacific, 40th Division right. Bit of a fly in thee old ointment, as the 40th did not enter into any significant combat till a month later in January 1945, unless they were two unlucky guys who were wounded in the mopping up on New Britain were Japanese activity was scarce , plus anyway they are both Infantry, but wear no CIB, and have two campaign stars on their A&P ribbon, by the late fall of 1944 should be only one, Bismarck Archipelago.

And one more from a wartime moral booster, Stage Door Canteen June 1943.

5th Armd Div as we see. At the very first I thought it was a real GI posing with a movie star for the poster right, but it is an actor, William Terry with Cheryl Walker.

SHAEF and the Varsity Division combat patches seen here on two, albeit fictional, senior ranking officers in the finale of The Long Gray Line.

Johnny Signor

Are these legimate Air Corps Group/Wing/Squadron patches FF?

The patches on the two jackets are a "variation" made for the movie of the actual 488th Bombardment Squadron, I've posted the genuine one (left) and a movie version (right) so you can compare the two , the movie one was not a "real" one ........

As a follow up to the patches used in the 1943 movie Air Force, I just got it again on DVD, and started watching it last night. they do indeed have unit patch on jackets, don't know what it is though. Was able to find a somewhat better image that shows the top of patch a least, in the film looks like a Micky Mouse like guy dropping a bomb, again do not know if it was real Group or Squadron, but as we know the movie was a amalgamation of events, so there is that possibly it was a phony Hollywood patch.

If any members have clarification, please check in.

The patch in the above image is of Mickey Mouse riding a falling bomb, not sure if it was a "real" unit patch , if so it would have been "Unofficial" as it's not in the Squadron or Group lineage books on "approved" emblems ......

A legit 101 patch???. Has a odd design to the eagle right, or did I just miss the depiction of this variant on Eagle Corner?

It's from that 1966 movie Cast a Giant Shadow with Douglas and Wayne.

That's the ugliest 101st I've ever seen. It's safe to say it's not ww2. If it has a chance to be real it's might be Vietnam era. When was that movie made?. I'm pretty sure it's a bogus patch.

1966.

Since it is believed that these jackets worn by Douglas and The Duke are wardrobe from The Longest Day, along with one or two more characters, then perhaps a patch from that movie.

There was one scene in The Longest Day were GIs from the 101st Abn Div are seen, remember, it's the scene where Richard Beymer's character, Pvt Arthur Schultz (he's lost) is along a stone wall, and hears noise ducks and the cricket clicking starts,, and raises up at the same time a group on the other side of the wall does too, hey who are you or something he say's right, and they say we're the 101, right after with Schultz tagging along now, the group moves on down the wall, and a group they see down the wall, they think they're OK. they head towards them on the other side of the wall, not really noticing each other remember! a low flying plane of an unknown type zooms above causing both parties to look up. thus not notice each other and both groups continue pass each other, Schultz notices them after a couple of seconds after the Germans pass and goes No!, remember! and then turns back and says Fellas Fellas Germans! to his guys, but they're already gone further away down the wall, and Schultz is alone again

Here's two more patches in the 2005 War of the Worlds, the 29th Infantry Division as seen on these ones in the truck on a New Jersey road, and a 10th Mountain Division Combat Patch (perhaps Somaliland) as seen here during I think a successful attack on the martian war machines. Me thinks a lot of real National Guardsmen were used in this movie right!

Here's another from the 1952 film Jumping Jacks, an 11th Airborne Division combat patch, as worn by actor Robert Strauss, a veteran of three well known war movies, Stalag 17, Bridges at Toko Ri, and ATTACK.

A 1st Cavalry Div patch worn on Lance Henriksen in the 1979 movie Damien Omen II, Henriksen's character, a Vietnam Vet, is the head of the Junior ROTC course at a High School school level Military Academy, Daniel Neff, I think he's a Master Sergeant. Anyway Neff, who is just assigned to the school just as Damien starts his freshman year, is in league with satan and guides Damien through the trials of youth to help him discover who he is etc etc, I guess he slapped a Hex on the Personnel folks to get him to be assigned rather than some other NCO

However looking at the patch, wouldn't believe the Cav would be worn in a real setting as an organizational shoulder patch of an NCO or an Officer of a ROTC or JR ROTC organization, but rather an Army one, IE 5th Army, 3rd Army etc.

Two views of the 1st Cav Div in Hollywood.

This one of the previously mentioned Tank Officer (Frank Marth) of the 1st Cav Div in MASH, and a modern one (Jeremy Sisto) from a mini series The Long Road Home.

Whoa ho, great WWII USMC patch find, remember this movie, hadn't seen it in years and years, a entertaining film I recall. A Wartime release of August 1944.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hail_the_Conquering_Hero

Hail the Conquering Hero, see's the 1st Marine Division shoulder patch being worn by all the Marines.

William Demerest seems to be wearing a Twill version, Eddie Bracken may be wearing a Twill one too.
