The 2nd Infantry Division embarked from NY en route to the UK in October ’43. Whilst in the UK they spent some months training in Wales in preparation for D-Day. In fact, elements of the division were based just a few miles from where I live today. So, I decided to put together a display representing a hypothetical 2nd ID infantryman as he might have appeared at that time by way of a tribute to all those young men who eventually landed at Omaha Beach on D-Day +1. All of the items seen here are original WW2 USGI. The basic uniform comprises of an OD wool shirt and pants with rough-out boots and leggings. The OD field jacket (with original patch etc) is a first pattern “Parsons jacket”. The helmet is a fixed-bail with British netting. Finally, the M1 rifle is a WW2 production Winchester. Everything is in mint, or near mint condition.
Hi Ian, nice grouping of equipment that you have put together for this display and good closeups of the details, pleased to see Craig pinned it rewarding your effort..
here's a link to some combat footage of the 2nd Div in France.

Thanks Ken...great link. Perhaps the members might be interested to know that in your previous life as the militaria dealer Norman D. Landing you supplied a number of the items on show there from your always excellent and often minty stock (via Beltring) though I'm sure you won't remember them all as it was some years ago now! Where has the time gone?! :w00t:
