patches Posted October 13, 2014 Author Share #226 Posted October 13, 2014 Found this great photo of Micky Rooney, he's outfitted and looking like a Rifleman, don't know if this an actual photo of him in Training when he was in the Army, or if it's from a movie, the way he's looking doesn't look familiar from any movie I seen. Ooops just did a quickie search, it's from a 1956 movie I never heard of before, a movie called The Bold and the Brave, Italy, he plays a Infantryman who's a "An inveterate gambler who runs a floating crap game up and down the Italian front" When did he find the time http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Bold_and_the_Brave
patches Posted October 17, 2014 Author Share #227 Posted October 17, 2014 Found this one, yesterday. Two German soldiers with a bunch of captured U.S. weapons and web gear, Luftwaffe troops (note belt buckle), Looks like Italy as Italian Camo is worn, so maybe they're from the Hermann Goering PZ Div, Anzio? patches Posted October 29, 2014 Author Share #231 Posted October 29, 2014 El Accidento A foto that I think was taken at Fort Monmouth NJ of a GI using an AN/PRC 25. No Leaf Cover, Carbine w/ M56 LBE means circa late 50s very early 60s. It seems to indicate field or branch trials of this new radio, as Ft Monmouth being a major Signal Corps post way back when, this may be right. patches Posted December 5, 2014 Author Share #235 Posted December 5, 2014 I was pleased to finally find this Vietnam War photograph online, in books I,ve seen it printed in, it's always a reverse image. This one is the correct view. Looking more like a Renegade or a Freebooter then a U.S. Army Foot Soldier, we see Spec 4 Richard Champion Co B 4th Bn 21st Inf, Americal Division during a firefight towards the middle of January 1971. patches Posted December 25, 2014 Author Share #238 Posted December 25, 2014 Wow what a cool photo, I forgot I had saved this photo found it like 13-14 months ago, what happend was I named the image in a manner that made me forget I had it saved, and I just overlooked it all this time. This guy is a here, from what I recall, is a vet of the 2nd Div in Korea, taken sometime in 1979, I think he was in for three post Nam, like 73-76, 72-75, his MOS, I think Armor Reconnaissance Specialist. The metal insignia, as I remember, DIs, French Rope etc was given to a youngster in the neighbourhood, but he kept the uniform with his discs and cloth insignia, and tried it on for kicks for a photo op,or maybe he was going to march in a local Memorial or Veterans Day Parade . patches Posted March 12, 2015 Author Share #240 Posted March 12, 2015 The above magazine cover showing the M14 Rifle in use with the Eskimo Scouts is from May 1970 dating the actual photo to late 1969 into early 1970. It now is apparent that this unit of the Alaska National Guard was armed with the M14 way earlier that 1969-70. This photo below was taken at an award ceremony in Alaska. Fairly common in the Marines then, we had a talk on it awhile back. I said these came from Army sources, particularly the 173rd Abn Bde on Okinawa which was where the 3rd Mar Div was co-located in 1965 before they went to the RVN in March of that year. http://www.usmilitariaforum.com/forums/index.php?/topic/180313-vn-era-usmc-helmets-with-para-liners/
