It appears to be a nice helmet on the auction.
Lately these have been bringing $250-ish on ebay. They use to be around $150 at our local shows for several years a surplus of them surfaced.Hayes Otoupalik had them at $399 for a while years ago in his catalog as he had found the mother load of them in the late 1980s or early 1990s.Size is also a factor.A buddy of mine paid $250 for one at the Kansas City Gunshow in May as it was a 7 3/4.

I think if you use patience you will find one as they are up on ebay very regularly

I have a fairly decent one I bought about 20 years ago for $125. It is a little squashed diagonally. Any suggestions for straightening it out? Where does one find the makers mark?

The marking is normally at the inside (back of the head).
It can be a round stamp (like Chicago Saddlery Co) or embossed(?) like Rawlings.

One of the reasons I joined the Forum, to show off some of my goodies. This is my Rawlings tanker helmet size 7 1/2", I traded three different helmets for it, I got the googles off US eBay for $9, I guess everybody was sleeping, they're not in that good of shape, but they do the job.

This is mine, a Rawlings with the necessary earphones, etc.
The microphone has been replaced with a throat microphone type.
It's on my 1st display.

Hey Erwin, (like Rommel?, just kidding) what kinda other tanker goodies do you have? I tried to get into your website, but a person needs a password, does it show your activities and the likes?

If I get his uniform, then I don't mind being called Rommel. B)

As for the tanker goodies; I haven't got that much (first pattern coveralls, shirts, Ike jackets, insignia, ...).
Currently working on a second display depicting a GI in the 704th TD Bn as in December 1944.

You can see some of the items here on USMF.
At the forum where I am moderator, there is more to see, yes.
I sort of "commute" between the two. ;)

Ive been wanting one of these for about three years now, since US headgear is not my main collecting interest when i have spare cash it seems like something allways comes up and the tanker helmet gets bumped down my list of wants.after trying to buy one a few times and getting out bid on ebay i found one from a dealer for less than i have seen them sell for on ebay lately!
