Mitch Posted December 27, 2007 Share #1 Posted December 27, 2007 Hi, I need a little help on a patch. It is the lower one in the picture. It came with the " Red Ball Express" patch above. Both had been sewn on . The remnants of the thread look the same on both. Would this patch have been worn with the "Red Ball" ? It is a completely woven patch. Maybe it isn't a US patch ?? I could not find it on the internet or my limited library. Regards, Mitch

Bank Vault Posted December 27, 2007 Share #3 Posted December 27, 2007 It might not be military. Could be a high school or college patch?
NorBn Posted December 27, 2007 Share #4 Posted December 27, 2007 The first one is the Transportation Corps Red Ball Express, a convoy system to move supplies to the front lines after the Normandie breakout. Not sure about the second one............. Erik
Proud Kraut Posted December 27, 2007 Share #5 Posted December 27, 2007 The second one looks "Bevo like" to me, could be a German made. "M.C." is in Germany widely used as abrevation for "Motor Club" but I'm really only guessing. Lars

Mort Mort - Great information! I would have guessed German made over and over again on the MC patch. Very nice Red Ball variation without the periods between the T and C, Mitch. Love the OD backing! Mitch Posted January 4, 2008 Author Share #8 Posted January 4, 2008 Thanks Mort for the info on the patch. So it seems it was kinda related to the Red Ball but not from the same period. I usually save up items and run them by Bill Scott, who is a good friend and he is only 100 miles away, but in the Wisconsin winter that seems like a 1000. I'm happy to have this forum to use and it has already been very useful. Gary, Thanks for the comment on the "Red Ball " patch. I think it is a good one or at least it sure looks like it. I don't know if it a known variant or not.

Mitch, If that "Red Ball" turned out to be fake or a repop, I'd never collect another patch in this life, and if you have doubts, you could always fire it off to me! I believe the MTS patches without the dots between the TC are just a less encountered version. With that OD backing, even nicer. I imagine Mort or Dave can give us a ratio of the different types in this pattern, with and without dots found. Is yours two-piece, embroidered together, or is it a very thin twill with the backing dyed OD? Super nice variation to a super nice variation. Here is mine of the same type and as you can see, embroidered on one piece of very thin twill. Mine came from a friend in Chicago who acquired several identicals from the same vet. CaptCav Posted January 4, 2008 Share #10 Posted January 4, 2008 I know the TC/MTS patches continued to be worn by US occupation troops until at least 1948. The transportaion truck companies that drove the 10 ton heavy rigs between major cities (on the autobahns) were the units which continued to wear it. Mitch Posted January 5, 2008 Author Share #11 Posted January 5, 2008 Hi Gary, The answer to your question on the material is: It is 2 pieces of material with the embroidery through both. The weave to the front is similar to yours. The weave to the back is about the same but in a different direction , therefore it appears to be different materials. And thanks for your positve comments. Regards, Mitch
