In light of the recent interest in KW patches, I have some more to post here. Nothing groundbreaking, just some variations. (Yes, I am quite excited nonetheless).

3rd ID (a little moth nipped :/ )

One of the nicer 7th ID variations I have seen:

A number of hourglasses:

A very rugged 24th ID. The flash washed out the colors just a tad but it is really more of a minty green and a pinky red rather than the typical green and red.

X Corps:

8th Army on a uniform with bullion Spec chevrons:

The 1092nd Engineer Combat Battalion, West Virginia National Guard was Federalized into active duty almost immediately after the NKPA invaded South Korea in 1950. The unit made it there in time to participate in the 1st UN Counter-Offensive and remained in Korea until March 1955. I believe that the 1092nd EUD (Engineer Utility Detachment) was responsible to erect temporary bridges as needed. This is a local Korean hand made insignia of silk floss on wool backing with bullion wire highlights trhoughout. On the reserves is both newsprint (English) covered with rice paper. My thoughts are that the patch was made in Seoul sometime in 1953 -1955. To much activity for the local Koreans to hand make patches at will in the earlier years of 1950-1952.

It would be nice to see other "Korean" made insignia in the same manner (eg. silk floss, thin darken bronzed wire and no quilted lattice to hold the design elements in place like how the Japanese artisans used)

Aloha,

John

Aloha and Happy New Years to all!

It's nice to see this thread resurrect a few times since I originally posted it. At this time I need to make a correction about this 1092nd Engineer Utitilies Detachment unit insignia. The 1092nd EUD was not part of the Korea War and has nothing to do with the West Virginia National Guard as I had concluded earlier. Much to my delight I discovered that this particular patch was made during the Korea Occupation and that they were located in Seoul Korea between the years of 1945-1949. I'm currently working on an article about this unit that will be featured in a future ASMIC Trading Post issue.

I've never seen that Specialist 2nd Class bullion. Very nice. I have a photo of my Dad in uniform with a SCARWAF bullion patch that I'd love to find a copy of. His final rank in the Army was Specialist 2nd Class.

Did you notice these two SCARWAF patches (link here)? Post you dad's picture. It is always interesting to see bullion on the hoof.

Great picture, jcroach1. Thanks for giving us a look at your dad's patch. It is noteworthy that his patch has no "KOREA" tab (as shown in the examples posted earlier on this thread). The tab was not part of the approved design.

Thanks. I hope to find a similar patch for purchase. I just educated myself on the term bullion. I have no idea if this was a bullion patch or not, but it was surely theater-made.
