Bluehawk Posted February 25, 2012 Share #2 Posted February 25, 2012 The U-505 was the first military vessel or vehicle I ever went aboard, age 9 (1954), at the Museum of Science and Industry when it was still being kept outdoors. Unforgettable experience... afterward, I began memorizing all rates and ranks of the branches.
history-buff1944 Posted July 17, 2012 Share #3 Posted July 17, 2012 Im not sure of the exact year but--I actually met and became friends with one of that U Boats crew members by the name of Hans Goebeler. Hans was known as the man who pulled the plug on that U Boat. Anyway, before he and his wife moves to Florida, I got to know them well enough and was friends with Hans. Through Hans-I met several Knights Cross Recipients as well as a man who the book: The Devils Guard was written about. In fact--THAT Hans was the one who told me about Herr Goebeler passing away. The phone calls I had with this Hans--are some I will never forget. Anyway, sorry for my rant but--because of Hans (U 505 Vet) I met someone else many would have loved to have met--on friendly terms that is. :-)) Thanks for the memory by having this thread.
