;) Ok now you copy and past from our end. there will of course be more then is listed in the IBDM site, my ERROR contrabution ( AMOUG MANY I SEEN ) the wearing of the U.S.NAVY E ribbon on a swabie's blue jumper- problem the NAVY E ribbon was not introduced till 1976.

That is along the lines of a uniform. As I said, the items I find interesting are factual historical items like this

"Admiral Yamamoto did not exercise tactical control over the Pearl Harbor attack, so he did not personally cancel the third wave. Decision was made by Vice-Admiral Nagumo who was the actual commander of the attacking Japanese carrier force. "

The Wiki article for Pearl Harbor (the movie) also includes a section related to historical inaccuracies. Not sure how correct though considering Wikipedia itself is often inaccurate. I hope because of this, clicking on the link does not create some kind of paradox!

I will state that everything from uniforms to background music, from vehicals to correct time frames, from weaponry to tactical executions, from period speech to hair cuts are all related to a historical movie, no matter how large or small they may be, ALL these elements are needed. To be sure TORA TORA TORA was not without its errors in this area, however it never pretended to be anything other than a docu-drama that was at that time in 1969 when filming started ground breaking in that it showed BOTH sides in the story. Tora Tora Tora as mention did have some errors , but they where no where near those in Pearl Harbour, not even close where these errors and most members will agree that TORA TORA TORA despite some errors IS THEE ONLY motion picture about DEC 7th, with it NEVER being able to be remaked, I say that because in my estimation and no doubt most other members that holly. The hollywood would be incapable of doing it. The Pearl Harbour movie in realty should be seen only for what it is a period ACTION film that cast the most popular actors and actresses of the time.

I hope everyone does not think that I am standing up for this movie. That was not my intention at all.

As I said, I find the problems with the events much more demeaning than a problem with a uniform.

I was just interested in finding out what was wrong with the events of Dec 7th and the Doolittle Raid.

My questions have been answered ten-fold.

I never thought that at all. The movie was so bad.....the nurses at the beginning of the movie look like something from a bad porno film......The idea that a pilot flew at Pearl Harbor, BoB and the Tokyo raid is preposterous..... The idea that the crews for the B-25s were fighter pilots specially selected is gross negligence....The medal scene with Baldwin looked like it came straight from an SNL skit had me laughing until I cried. It was ALL bad!.....Guys hiding behind a barricade to hide from a Japanese Zero like it was a German tank was hilarious.....Spitfires sitting in front of a manor house for effect was funny as hell.....The broken canopy on the Spitfire splattered with blood with the RAF officer stating something like "well at least the bloke brought the kite back before he died" was hilarious.

OK, I enjoyed the movie because it made me laugh like I had not laughed in a long time. Then after my fit settled, I was really pissed that the movie was set up as some living memorial as the disgraceful movie it was. They actually screened the movie for PH vets before release. I could only imagine what they thought of it.

If your interested, there is a book you can get on Pearl Harbor called AT DAWN WE SLEPT, The untold story of Pearl Harbor, a big fat book from 1981, its excelent, by the late Gordon W. Prange. Prange an Army officer in 1945 was Mac Arthur's Chief of the Historical section of GHQ and interviewed every surviving Japanese Naval officer involved in the planing and accual attack on Pearl Harbor, with his notes/papers from his GHQ days, as well as 37 years of further research resulted in this book.

Speaking as a Brit, the Battle of Britain sequence was soooooo bad it was almost laughable. I say "almost" because the real BoB cost too many young men their lives and in so doing saved my country from the yoke of Nazi oppression which in turn enabled us and our allies to continue the fight. Therefore it was an affront to their memory and sacrifice. What the American PH vets must have thought of it all I shudder to think!!

...and Michael Bay diminished their sacrifice to a "plot point"....

Cobrahistorian

There are 2 shots in the entire movie worth seeing.

1) a flight of Spitfires over the cliffs of Dover. Breathtaking.

2) Kate Beckinsale in the red dress walking towards a P-40. Even more breathtaking.

Other'n that, it could have been called Timbuck-friggin-too and no one would have known the difference.

If your into reading I would recomend reading this and other good books on it, I find there is no better way than reading ( Not just stuff on the internet ) to gain knowlege on subjects, all the replys as well as those posted on other sites that have been referenced in this topic, have there basis in reading about the planing of and the attack on Pearl Harbor.

Leave TORA TORA TORA as is, no remake, are you kidding me, if they where to do it you can rest assured it will be not like the original, it will be loaded with PC crap, with other areas being the focus, its also doubtfull that the actors that will be cast will have the same charator and presence as the ones in the 1970 movie.

Yes, and then we'd probably miss my favorite line from Tora-Tora-Tora. It's when an airfield commander was told to park his planes wingtip to wing tip, and he said "A one-eyed monkey hanging from a 10 cent balloon could blow them all to hell with a hand grenade!"

They don't write 'em like that anymore!!

Both the Spitfire and Kate Beckinsale are British classics, in their own rights!! ;)

Somehow I knew you men would divert this topic to women!

You are all soooo predictable.

The movie was too long and I still like "Tora, Tora, Tora" much better. I was not impressed and thought here is just another stage to show off the advanced special effects that are better suited for Sci-Fi movies (Star Wars/Star Trek, etc.).

Yes there are quite a few lines that one loved, like this one both involving kimmel and Halsey.

HALSEY: WHAT ARE A FIGHTING FLEET, KIM ? OR ARE THESE TOY BOATS THE JAPS CAN BUY AT CHRISTMAS !

And this one in a later scene.

KIMMEL; WHAT WILL YOU DO IF YOU SPOT ANY JAPANESE ?

HALSEY: IF I SEE SO MUCH AS A SAMPAN NEAR US..... I'LL BLOW IT OUT OF THE WATER.

Jason Robards as General Short was superb.

COLONEL FIELDER: WE CANT PUT UP THE RADER ON THE MOUNTAIN !

SHORT: WHY THE HELL NOT ?

COLONEL FIELDER: YOU SEE SIR, ALL THAT LAND UP THERE BELONGS TO THE HAWAIIAN NATIONAL PARK, THE WILD LIFE PRESERVATION SOCIETY IS GIVING US HELL TOO !

SHORT: AND WE CAN"T GET PERMISSION ?

COLONEL FIELDER: NO ! NOT UNLESS YOU WANT TO FIGHT THEM ?

SHORT: YOUR DAMN RIGHT WHERE GONNA FIGHT EM !......... WILDLIFE PRESERVATION SOCIETY ........PFFFFF !
