Remember Pearl Harbor - Navy Good Conduct Medal Groups to Survivors

This year on the 70th anniversary of the Pearl Harbor attack, I decided to do this tribute to the survivors of the event. In this thread you won't see large groups with valor decorations, just a dedication to the average sailor who served with honor and lived through that horrible day. My Father-in-law served on the USS Honolulu and I dedicate this thread to him. In 1940 he was an Apprentice Seaman. By 1944 he was a Chief. Rank happens quickly in wartime.

I will post these by ship. I invite other to post your examples.

"Remember Pearl Harbor!" Very prideful thing to own these medals......all the medals of all the wars. I received my uncles Silver Star from the Korean War this year after his death. And his Silver Star certificate. I received the flag upon his burial. Nobody appreciates it more than me. He was my hero...........

Kurt,

Thank you for posting this topic. I am amazed by the items/groups you have posted and it is a fitting tribute to those brave men who were there on that terrible day to say the very least.

Thank you

Will

Rahder's pre-war medals that were salvaged after the attack and returned to him. The coins, pocket knife and mechanical pencil in the previous photo also belonged to him and were salvaged from the Oklahoma.
