Donald O,Connor in the 1950 movie Frances, the comedy flic that takes place in India, and at the front in Burma, involving his talking Army Mule :D

post-34986-0-59922800-1425527563.jpg

Here we see an unusual helmet cover of a material that defies description, a light weight muslin, dyed and slightly mottled over? Also check out the chin strap hook strap, not only is it attached to it's loop backwards (the tab would face the cheek), it appears to be studded rather then bar tacked, something normally seen with the straps attached to the loops this stud. Oh, looks like a Hawley too, split and damaged rim as per usual.

Here's another view of O'Connor's pot, an up close view. Here we see the long strap looks way off, note the thick like look and that odd deepish seam. Probably the straps are wardrobe made, and the stud now seen attaching it to the loop, also no Hawly this time right, looks like your standard liner.

Burning Hazard

This is from the movie "A Midnight Clear"

The M1's in this movie are all swivel bail with quite poorly re-sewn chinstraps; looks like they took the post-war black clips off and hastily resown them. Still not bad.

Burning Hazard

Movie called "Tae Guk Gi"

Although it's set at the start of the Korean War about 1949-1950, the ROK soldiers are outfitted with M1 helmets that have the metal hardware on the chinstraps; I believe these were not produced till like 1952-53 or later. The correct helmets would most likely be recycled WW2 M1's, both fixed and swivel bail.

There's also some mix of Vietnam field gear seen throughout the movie.

Still a pretty good flick.

Two images of the decaled Cadre liners of the late 40s 50s as seen in TAKE THE HIGH GROUND. Story takes place at Fort Bliss TEX, so very correct with the 4th Army decals, as Bliss fell under 4th Army, however, to the best of my knowledge these cadre in at Bliss in 1950-1953 or so would of been conducting Branch Specific AAA AIT not Basic as depicted in the movie, Basic was conducted by your Training Divisions.

From the 1944 movie "Marine Raiders"...

There seems to be a mix of real pots and prop helmets of some kind being used. Presumably M1 helmets were readily available at the time. Perhaps the props were lighter/more comfortable. Sort of looks like a prop over a real liner.

backwards chinstraps or reversed image?

Jake - Good observation... Here's a different pic. You can see by the buttons on their uniforms that the image isn't reversed but actor Barton MacLane (L) still has the short strap on the wrong side. These might not even have the correct buckles. Notice the odd shape of the helmet on the right - the rear rim looks like a bell. There also is no texture on the pots.

they both appear to have backwards straps but everything else looks right, but it isn't uncommon to see reversed videos I know in both titanic movies both had reversed scenes...

was watching the Chris Walken bits from Biloxi Blues and noticed the helmets.

Looks like rear seam shells with either no chin straps fitted or they are tucked up into the liner, they also look like clip on straps.

Some great mocked up graffiti covered/added paraphernalia helmets in Platoon with almost every character having different helmet art or some such which as we know happened in VN.

Went to a small miliaria show today and found a beater rear seam swivel bail w/liner,no liner chin strap, missing the sweat band and suspension lace. Got home and took a look at it. Marked on the suspension webbing was the name Norman Fell.Mr.Fell was an actor who was in a few war movies,Pork Chop Hill,Sgt, Ryker and a couple more. The liner was taped with masking tape to hold the liner in tightly. The shell and liner have been together for a while.I purchased this from a well known prop supplier/military movie advisor. He made no mention or claim to its prior use.

I am not good w/computers and have not figured out the photo thing, but i'll try.

I know it's not Gregory Pecks lid,but it would be cool if it was from PCH.

Burning Hazard

Castle Keep 1969

Looks like stunt helmets, note the rivet above the swivel bail.

Overall, not bad.
