Fred Borgmann Posted November 17, 2007 Share #1 Posted November 17, 2007 Here's a little gem that defies attribution. It is multi-piece construction and totally made of silver. The maker is "JNO. P. LUTHOR N. Y." as marked on the back of the broach. I hope someone here has inside information about this medal. Thanks, Fred
Brig Posted November 17, 2007 Share #2 Posted November 17, 2007 looks like a Sgt chevron in the center there
Fred Borgmann Posted November 17, 2007 Author Share #3 Posted November 17, 2007 looks like a Sgt chevron in the center there  Yep, my guess would be that it was awarded to someone who made Sgt. in 1894. That person was probably in the National Guard and the medal may have been issued on the company level. Based on the maker, probably in NY or close by. I have seen similar type designs in gold from Nat. Guard units in Wisc and Minn but never with just Sgt. stripes and nothing else in the center.
