Siamundo Posted September 3, 2011 Share #1 Posted September 3, 2011 Hello. I have a general question to ask regarding the wearing of specialty or distinguishing marks. Who would have worn khaki and olive marks? The US Navy or the US Marines? I do not have a camera with me at the moment, but I have run across some marks that feature an olive drab emblem on khaki twill. There are only about 4 of 5 designs-like a bugler; gun captain; marksman; and gun pointer I think. I was not aware of the navy wearing a khaki unform so I was thinking maybe WW I interwar period marines as there are a few red on green wool marks thrown in. Any ideas? Sorry again for the lack of photos, but they are the same basic sizes and designs as those commonly seen on blue wool and white twill. Thank you. Un-official, but commercially produced on the hopes they would be approved for wear. Some Marines bought them anyway and wore them. Every mark produced for the Navy was also produced for Marines even those that would neer be worn such as Submarine dolphines and EX-Apprentice knot. Here are examples of Gun Pointer marks worn by United States Marine Corps personnel between 1908 to 1918 when they changed to the U.S. Navy style Gun Pointer marks. Hope this helps! hhbooker2 Posted April 8, 2012 Share #6 Posted April 8, 2012 Yet more scans. Have to wonder if these marks were also worn by sailors and not just marines?
