Small WW1 Collection I Just Acquired

All,

I just picked up a small WW1 collection from a collector who had decided to "move on" to collecting Military Knives.

These are all currently at my folk's house in Florida, and I won't have them until I either go get them, or have them shipped to me in Texas, so sorry no close ups for the time being.

Hope you enjoy:

Chris

Chris-

Excellent collection you've got going there. Do you have others or are these your first? You really can't beat the value for your money. Such history for pennies on the dollar (that's coming from someone who used to collect WWII German)! All are nice but my favorite is the wounded doughboy from the 84th division who had less than 6 mos. overseas. If you should get tired of that one, give me a shout. I look forward to some detailed pics when available. Thanks for posting them here. thumbsup.gif

Oh dang it! Spoke too soon. Right after this reply posted, I noticed a few more tunics. Can't wait to see what else you've got in this deal! I was in the same situation as you are about 2 months ago. I ran into someone who sold me all of his WWI enlisted uniforms. Most are quite rare SSI's.

Charles,

Thanks for your kind words. All are ID, and all but the Air Service uniform come with Dog Tags and other personal items. The eight uniforms are the extent of the collection. But I was glad to get them.

I do have a few other WW1 items. ;)

That's one of the fascinating points I've enjoyed when collecting WWI uniforms. It seem more often than not, they come extras (ie pants, headgear etc...) and still very affordable. And if you're extra lucky, it might be ID'd like the ones in your collection w00t.gif

I found a handful of confetti in one of the tunics I recently acquired which was probably a keepsake from the victory parade. Totally surprised to find that! My advice to you is to check over the uniform thoroughly. Might find a couple of surprises yourself.

Speaking of inspecting the uniforms, do you know where to find the depot tags? If not, look underneath the liner and you can usually locate them along the bottom edge. Sometimes you'll find a name written on the tag....

Those look great and you are very lucky to find so many at one time. Keep digging - there are tons of stuff still out there.

Very nice! [

Any Hoosiers among the bunch?

Beast,

I don't know yet. I won't know until I get the details on each soldier, and can do some quick research. I need to get my folks to send me the names and info on each uniform.

Thanks!

Lucky guy!!! Looks like some really nice IDed pieces.

If any are "duplicates", feel free to let me know...I'll gladly help you get some $$$ back from your investment. thumbsup.gif

Dave,

Thanks! After I get my hands on them, and can take stock of all that is included in each group, I'll have a better idea of what I will keep and what will be available.

I mostly bought the collection to get the Air Service uniform, which ironically is the "least complete" of all the groups!

It will cost me upwards of $100 just to ship them so I am thinking that for that kind of money, Ill just get a plane ticket, probably take a long weekend, fly home to FL, visit my folks, and kill two birds with one stone. Only problem is work is pretty busy now, so I just don't know how soon I can get back there. think.gif

Nice tunics! Most of them have IDs that you don't see too often, I'm still trying to get a less then 6 mo. overseas chevron. Nice catch! thumbsup.gif

Chris,

Yeah, buddy you have a few things! LOL And that is the shame of it, I have so few in my collection! LOL I gather that you are busy this week taking notes! I'm going to drive up to the Alderfer auction next week, it looks like they have more US marked wire cutters with canvas carriers then I've ever seen in one place. Buddy, you need to part with some of the AEF stuff since I have so little of it! RLMAO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

John

PS: If you sell or trade to our mutual friend, I'll be pissed! You still have to figure out how to get the pair of named 5AA tunics outta me! They could be had for a wonderful trade!
