Ronald Posted July 28, 2011 Share #1 Posted July 28, 2011 Hello Do these letter opener have any value and if so, what would it be? It is stainless, made by N.S. Meyer, New York. I believe it is a replica of the 1902 U.S. officers saber. Thanks, Ron
Spathologist Posted July 28, 2011 Share #2 Posted July 28, 2011 That's a nice one! It is a copy of a M1902. Meyer also sold full-sized sabers. Value? They usually go for between $30-75. I'd put yours at the high end, with that attractive etch and nice condition. There are collectors for these out there.
SARGE Posted July 28, 2011 Share #3 Posted July 28, 2011 While your miniature Model 1902 Army Officer Saber is the most common of the miniature swords there are others. Below is a selection of some of the miniature US swords that are available to collect. And, some more variations of the more common US Army and Navy sword miniatures. VMI88 Posted August 6, 2011 Share #5 Posted August 6, 2011 Sarge, Are there any markings on the two cadet sabers in the middle of your first picture? I have one marked VMI and I've seen them marked West Point. Bill
SARGE Posted August 6, 2011 Share #6 Posted August 6, 2011 Sarge, Are there any markings on the two cadet sabers in the middle of your first picture? I have one marked VMI and I've seen them marked West Point. Bill The Air Force Academy sword and the West Point sword in the first frame are both simply marked with the generic "GERMANY" stamp. The various M1902 sabres in the second frame have shields or markings to a variety of schools. I think both the Navy swords are also military school swords. The flat one and the small ones are prizes for attendance at military balls. Flat M1902 mini sabre.
VMI88 Posted August 7, 2011 Share #7 Posted August 7, 2011 Thanks for the information -- you have a nice collection. In addition to the miniature VMI cadet saber I have three or four others, mostly of the M1902 variety. I like these a lot and just can't pass them up when I see them for a decent price. Go Navy Posted August 21, 2019 Share #8 Posted August 21, 2019 Hello, I have two miniature swords that I would like know their approximate age. One is a USN officers sword and the other is a West Point cadets sword. Both are stamped Germany on one side of the blade and both are stamped with the N.S. Meyer shield on the other. Both swords also have etched blades. Rich
SARGE Posted August 22, 2019 Share #9 Posted August 22, 2019 These are both fairly early minis IMHO. I would say certainly pre-WWII and most probably from the time in between the wars.
Go Navy Posted September 1, 2019 Share #10 Posted September 1, 2019 Hello, Thanks for the info. What does IMHO stand for? When did N.S.Meyer stop stamping their shield on the blades of their miniature swords? Rich

sundance Posted September 6, 2019 Share #12 Posted September 6, 2019 I'd love to run into one of these miniswords. It took me awhile to figure out IMHO also. I'm always trying to figure out initials on this forum, especially with military clothing.
JAG Posted August 9, 2022 Share #13 Posted August 9, 2022 I am looking for a miniature West Point sword display with my real one. Does anyone know where I might be able to locate one? I want to make a white cross belt and Baldric for my West Point bear and use the sword it it is the right size.
