Sorry, looks like a group of common items put together with a fake photo and a fake patch to me. Good luck on your sale. Jefro

Yes this is my auction. Since the first few minutes it was on eBay I was getting all kinds of emails with what I thought were crazy offers. No one was willing to tell me much about what the deal was. One guy who made an incredible offer told me I had a rare Australian made patch. So I went on line too see what I could find out. In my search I found a patch similar to mine that had been photographed and discussed on this forum so I thought this might be a nice place to find out more about it. I got this grouping many years ago from Mr Jackson himself so there is no question as to the authenticity of this group. I am going through a big change at a late stage in my life and have decided to sell off my grouping collection 46 years in the making. Every item came from the vet. I am sorry for any protocol that I might not have followed or if anyone feels that I am using this forum to promote myself. If my intentions were dishonest I would have ended the auction and sold to the 2500.00 bidder. With that said it is my hope that somehow the tone of this discussion will take a turn to the better. Thank you

Sir,

You could have simply posted a picture of the patch alone without mention of it being at auction and asked about it. Several times in the past members have joined only to pretend they were asking about an ebay item, when in reality they are trying to get free advertisement. Just my opinion...

Just wanted add something important. I came to this forum because I believed you were a group of people with extreme knowledge of all things military. I have reviewed many online military forum and this one is top notch, hands down.

This is a top notch group that may be why they got a little flustered. You can be honest on this forum that is all you need to remember. I am sure cooler heads will start to prevail, good luck with your auction.

As soon as I learn to post photos I will show some other Marine Corps squadron patch groupings I have. Thank you.

You are welcomed to the forum by all and yes, we are generally a very nice group of people here. However the topic that you started was "VMF 122 Squadron Patch Grouping on EBay". When checking your feedback and other auction descriptions it is apparent that you possess some intimate knowledge of the items that you sell. Unfortunately, we've seen enough of these types of threads started by persons hoping to drum up bidders here on the forum in the past. There's even been a couple of posts in the past regarding the "how rare is this" question which is generally a prelude to an auction listing elsewhere. Sorry if you feel singled out in any way. As for your grouping, You've owned this grouping for 20 years and got it from the veteran himself. In 46 years of collecting these groupings I suspect you have some idea of the rarity of the items yourself, hence your decision to sell them on EBay. The only real question seems to be the one you answered already. There is at least one other example of the patch as you saw on the forum and perhaps more importantly, you have someone willing to pay you $2500 for the grouping. Again, good luck with your sale and welcome to the forum. I look forward to seeing some of your other USMC squadron patch groupings. I think you'll find the posting of photographs on here just as easy as EBay; if not more so. Jeffro

No offense but if you had a $2500 offer I would have sold it.Nothing dishonest about ending an auction as it happnes with purple hearts all the time.I have bid on several auctions only to find them pulled or stopped.

I would have too! Looks like the seller settled for less than $770 though. I don't understand the reasoning behind sellers that feel like once an item is listed, it's no longer theirs to do whatever they want with. Nor do I understand the bidders that get upset when an item is taken off the auction block as it was never theirs to begin with. As a seller, the item still belongs to me until I decide to let it go to whomever I want; whenever I want. There's nothing dishonest about it. One of eBay's valid reasons for ending an auction is "item no longer available for sale". The only thing they left out from the bidder's perspective are the words "to you" at the end of that reason. I have only bought from eBay,never sold anything,yet...

As a bidder,I think that an auction is an auction, and once the auction

starts,it should go to the finish, however bitter that end may be

for the seller.Either put it up for a buy it now sale,or let it go to auction

is my view.I once bid on a train set and no one bid against me,but the

seller yanked the item and ended the auction early.I don't think that this

was right, and I never bid on his stuff again. Now that I think about it,

maybe the reason that no one bid against me was that this person had

pulled this before, and now everyone was staying away.Ending auctions

early leaves a stain on the reputation of a seller that is tough to erase.

This is my opinion from a buyers' point of view.

If I ever start selling on eBay,I will not end auctions early for the reasons

that I have outlined above, and if I am worried that I won't get what I want

for it,I'll add a reserve on it. ;)
