Greg Robinson Posted October 27, 2007 Share #4 Posted October 27, 2007 That's a rare bird!! Wish I could find one of those along with a HD&S one for my collection Me too. :0 But be careful of fakes. I know a collector in England who purchased one of those two rare makers (forget now which one it was) and it was a fake. He'd gotten it from a reputable dealer in London and they immediately refunded his money but it was still a dissappointing and stressful experience. cwnorma Posted October 27, 2007 Share #5 Posted October 27, 2007 Greg, Good advice in any case. I have seen several fakes of the HD&S Knife, but very few of the OCL. Most of the HDS fakes are re-worked LF&C knives. Usually, the handle has been ground and filled and new markings applied. The HD&S fakes are actually fairly easy to tell apart from the originals, once you have handled a few of them. The OCL on the other hand, so few of them are known, that fakes of this knife haven't yet become a major problem. One thing to notice is that the finger stalls on the OCL are distinctly different from the LF&C and HD&S knives. Mike Silvey believes that only a handful of these OCL knives were ever made, and today, only about a half dozen or so have survived. Here is a real HD&S from Frank Trzaska's website, and a link to more: American Edged Weapons Museum--HD&S Knife Follow this link to compare it to a real LF&C Knife: American Edged Weapons Museum--LF&C Knife This is a typical fake HD&S knife. Notice the flat sides where the faker has ground the LF&C Markings Click this link to see more fake knives on Frank Trzaska's site: Fake Mk 1 Knives Chris Me too. :0 But be careful of fakes.
