patches Posted June 23, 2011 Share #3 Posted June 23, 2011 Tag,its a 1957 pattern Very fine mint cap. Also very intriguing never seen this type, was it posibily worn and would only be worn by troop's in an arctic enviroment, IE alaska ?
korea drab Posted June 23, 2011 Author Share #4 Posted June 23, 2011 Yes,would make sense what?Used with white over clothes a dark green pile would be to evident. patches Posted June 24, 2011 Share #5 Posted June 24, 2011 http://cgi.ebay.com/USGI-Korean-era-wool-c...s-/180682844490Its a buy now for 25 buck! As i write im looking at one my pile caps, its a mint june 1951 dated item with a 1948 regulation combat blue on gold CPL stripe machine sewn on the visor. The one with the white fur is of a completly differerant configuration in regards to the visor and the fur flap's in comparison to the standard M51 pile cap's, you will note that the white fur one has no tighting/tying cord for the flap, and it has a male/female snap to hold the visor fast against the crown the M51 does not, because it has no cord for the flap it most certainly has the same snap to hold the two flaps together on top of the crown. it is certainly a very interresting cap. MattS Posted June 25, 2011 Share #10 Posted June 25, 2011 This cap, or an identical one, was relisted by the seller. It doesn't seem the be the standard M-1951 style as noted (no string, lined visor).
patches Posted October 15, 2017 Share #11 Posted October 15, 2017 Looks like we may have a White Fur Pile Cap being worn here in West Germany by this 3rd Armd Div Captain, winter of 1974-75. by the way, was there a cut off date for wear of these pile caps, as the new M65 Cold Weather Caps were standard by the early 70s. atb Posted October 15, 2017 Share #12 Posted October 15, 2017 I was issued a model 1951 pile cap out of the Ft. Wainwright CIF in Jan 1972 and wore it throughout my time in Alaska. I still have it. I don't think there was an official wear out period. I was issued the newer type in 1970, but the older one was "cool."

Certainly didn't see the old ones by 1980, like you i like the older ones too.

patches Posted October 16, 2017 Share #16 Posted October 16, 2017 Here's another White one being worn, I jumped the gun on this in posting it here as Seanmc1114 just posted this in the Armor Triangles on The Chest topic in the Patches Forum A GI of the AR 205th Inf Bde (Sep)'s 4/33rd Armor in the mid 1960s. patches Posted December 5, 2017 Share #17 Posted December 5, 2017 Whoa Ho, Big Time Find. Gen Guy Meloy wearing the White Pile Cap, circa 1961-63, could be South Korea or West Germany. That insignia is unique, looks almost silk screened. (Photo posted originally by warpath).

patches Posted July 8, 2018 Share #20 Posted July 8, 2018 ERROR ERROR, thought this was another sighting of the white caps, no, it appears that it's just a white covering on the visor, probably for maneuvers.
patches Posted March 24, 2019 Share #21 Posted March 24, 2019 If we go by this illustration, it just might be that the White Pile Cap was prescribed for wear over the Brown Drab one with the winter aggressor uniform in the 50s-60s (Illustration from member Bernhard, as posted in Aggressor Helmet Topic he started back in 2010).
