Fox Posted October 21, 2007 Share #1 Posted October 21, 2007 Gentlemen, I'm about to buy a Camillus marked on the guard from a friend of mine who found it out on eBay. Can anyone tell me more about it? Sorry for the poor definition of the pics -- they were picked up from the Internet. Thanks for advice, Fox. Greg Robinson Posted October 21, 2007 Share #2 Posted October 21, 2007 That was the last wartime contract for the USMC 1219c2 "k-bar" by CAMILLUS. Most of them didn't get issued until post WW2 but they're still a legit variation of the WW2 Marine "k-bar" knife.

My friend sells it for € 70.
gunbarrel Posted October 21, 2007 Share #4 Posted October 21, 2007 So I can buy it as an original mark II? What about the price? My friend sells it for € 70. The condition turns me off. My Mark 2's are all used, but that one looks like it's been dragged behind a pick-up truck for several miles. Compare with these USN Mark 2's that costa has for sale for just a bit more: http://www.usmilitariaforum.com/forums/ind...?showtopic=8985 If you just want a Mark 2 (not necessarily marked USMC), I would think that you could do better than $100 for that one, but that's just my opinion and we have to take into consideration that you are in Europe. Good luck!
Fox Posted October 21, 2007 Author Share #5 Posted October 21, 2007 Well, what do you guys suggest? Is it a good deal? Should I buy it or wait? Are you definitely sure it cannot be a repro/fake despite the poor pics? Thanks a lot.
Greg Robinson Posted October 21, 2007 Share #6 Posted October 21, 2007 No...it's not a fake. In that condition I don't see it being worth 70 euros since over here that's about $140. That knife is the most common of all the WW2 k-bars and I've see them in excellent/near mint condition for not significantly more than that one would cost you

I'm about to buy a whole 'package' (including a couple of USMC Service Garrison Caps, leggins and the knife) from a friend of mine also collecting Marines stuff. This will be my first K-Bar! Greg Robinson Posted October 26, 2007 Share #9 Posted October 26, 2007 Greg, When did the production of this contract start? When did it end? Thanks for your info, Fox The specification was changed in 1944 requiring markings to be moved to the guard. So production of that version knife started no earlier than 1944 and ended at the end of WW2 when all contracts were terminated

Greg Robinson Posted October 27, 2007 Share #11 Posted October 27, 2007 Thanks for your answers. I do appreciate it. I'm told I was wrong about the Euro to US dollar exchange rate so the knife isn't priced quite as high as I first figured. And it's been a while since I bought a "k-bar". So maybe the price isn't out of line as I originally thought. Greg
Fox Posted October 27, 2007 Author Share #12 Posted October 27, 2007 At the moment, one Euro corresponds to US $1.4398 -- so €70 correspond to US $100.7825. I think it's quite a good deal, isn't it?

I think it's quite a good deal, isn't it? Since all WW2 Marine "k-bars" are rising in price I guess that's a fair deal. I guess I got spoiled during the early days of ebay when US fighting knives were plentiful and inexpensive. But that was nearly ten years ago. I have a 10 Euro note that a French collector sent me several years ago. Maybe one day I can come to Europe and spend it. Greg

Fox Posted October 28, 2007 Author Share #16 Posted October 28, 2007 You guys have both very nice knives. I agree with you Costa when you say 'just collect the best' ; however it's kinda hard to find out that type of knife over here in Europe, and when you have the chance to find one, 'catch it if you can'! Greg, keep your note to have a drink when you get to Normandy... Fox
