cwnorma Posted October 19, 2007 Share #5 Posted October 19, 2007 Lewis, There were four regiments of "Motor Mechanics" raised during WW1. As you know, during the great war, Aeroplanes were cutting edge technology, and very few mechanics were skilled to work on extremely complex aircraft engines of the day. This led to a critical shortage of Motor Mechanics In order to ameliorate the shortfall, the Army concentrated it's Motor Mechanics into four regiments who worked at Depots and also traveled all over France to help "keep em flying!" The members of the four "Motor Mechanic Regiments" were considered to be the elite, highly technical, and highly skilled enlisted members of the Air Service. I will take a picture of the patch soon. General Apathy Posted October 19, 2007 Share #6 Posted October 19, 2007 Hi Chris, thanks for posting some information on the unit, I knew they were Air service Mechanics but wondered just what it was that made them ' Famous ' would like to see your patch if you get the opportunity. I have one but it has already gone to my next home in Normandy along with all my other patches, and it will be nice to see how it compares to mine. I am away for the weekend dropping furniture off at my new place, so it may be a few days before I can respond again. Thanks again.
