KASTAUFFER Posted October 12, 2007 Share #1 Posted October 12, 2007 I have been slimming down the collection and have been selling some of my WWI postal history . I listed this one on Ebay this week , but I thought you all might get a kick out of seeing the letter before its gone. It was written by a Marine with the 6th Marines , 2nd Division during the Battle of Belleau Wood . He wrote it French stationary . Its not an EGA , but I think it is still cool. I have NEVER seen a letter from a Marine written during the battle. He writes in his letter : " Things have been rather warm for the Marines of late but Fritz has had an even warmer time of it than we . Possibly the papers have told you of the scrapping up here " . Allan H. Posted October 12, 2007 Share #2 Posted October 12, 2007 Kurt, That is one AWESOME letter. I cannot even believe the historical significance of the words written there. Every once in a great while, I see something on this forum that i think is truly museum quality. Well sir, this one is just that- Museum quality. Where else is anyone ever going to own something that they know for sure is WWI Marine and from combat, and un-messed-with? Thanks for sharing it. I hope it goes to a good home.
