Disney WWII Insignia

This is not Dave's website, but another Disney historian. The images are taken from issues of Walt Disney Comics and Stories published by Dell Comics in the 1940s. Some of the designations are vague or inaccurate due to wartime security.

Yes. my friend Matterhorn is right...this is a friend's site...his name is Jeff Pepper.

Several issues of Walt Disney's Comics & Stories comic book reprinted Disney-designed insignia during the war, usually on either the front inside or back inside covers, and sometimes on both those pages...they'd either show 12 or 24 designs.

Here are the issues I've been able to document that contained examples of the insignia art:

October 1942, Volume 3, Number 1

November 1942, Volume 3, Number 2

December 1942, Volume 3, Number 3

January 1943, Volume 3, Number 4

March 1943, Volume 3, Number 6

June 1943, Volume 3, Number 9

July 1943, Volume 3, Number 10

August 1943, Volume 3, Number 11

October 1943, Volume 4, Number 1

December 1943, Volume 4, Number 3

January 1944, Volume 4, Number 4

February 1944, Volume 4, Number 5

March 1944, Volume 4, Number 6

April 1944, Volume 4, Number 7

May 1944, Volume 4, Number 8

June 1944, Volume 4, Number 9

July 1944, Volume 4, Number 10

Several issues also have war related cover art that dealt with rationing, war bonds, savings stamps, etc.

About 50 of my items are currently on display at the Walt Disney Family Museum...pretty much all of the insignia stuff in the war gallery, which is Gallery 6. The Museum has been in talks with me...looks like I may be presenting two lectures there next year, with one focusing on Disney's WW II insignia contributions.

Thanks for the comments about my blog...it's a labor of love!

Yes, the guest speaker is my friend Paul F. Anderson.

I'll be giving about a 40 minute talk on Disney insignia at a Disney collectors convention in Seattle on June 25.

I'll be giving two guest lectures, one on insignia, at the Disney Museum in San Francisco next year.

Paul's lectures this weekend will also include, on Sunday, a rare public viewing of Victory Through Air Power with a discussion after the film is shown.
