gunbarrel Posted September 22, 2007 Share #1 Posted September 22, 2007 Picked this up today at an antique shop for $8. The guy wanted to know if it was a Foreign Legion cap I told him that it was a Ridgeway cap and then he says, oh, it's a Castro cap! I guess he was hard of hearing, like me Anyway, it's interesting to see that after 50 years this fatigue cap still doesn't show fatigue! Lee Ragan Posted September 24, 2007 Share #3 Posted September 24, 2007 I heard that one reason this cap was phased out was that Castro wore one with his uniform & US troops began to call them "Castro Caps". I don't know if that was the reason or not for their demise, but it made a good story. When I joined the Air Force in 1966, some Training Instructors (TI's), still wore the things, but they were fast disappearing. Remember the days when cartoon character Beetle Bailey wore one of these?
