Allan H. Posted September 22, 2007 Share #2 Posted September 22, 2007 It looks good to me, but I would have to wonder why anyone would go to the trouble of faking one? Allan
wolventm Posted September 22, 2007 Share #3 Posted September 22, 2007 It is original to the time period 1968-early 70's. The original US Army tape was orignally probably the gold on black, and it has been replaced with a US Army tape that was private purchase through the PX. Earlier shirts would have still worn the white name tape with black lettering. Later shirts would have gone to the subdued 2nd Infantry Division Insignia and Imjin scout badge. It is for a 2Lt of Engineers, and I believe most Engineer units in 2nd Division were out of Camp Howze, Korea at the time, which is south of the Imjin River. However, Engineeers and other units went up to the DMZ on a rotational basis serving a three month tour actually on the DMZ which would establish qualification for the Imjin Scout Badge. Manchu Warrior Posted September 22, 2007 Share #4 Posted September 22, 2007 It is original to the time period 1968-early 70's. However, Engineeers and other units went up to the DMZ on a rotational basis serving a three month tour actually on the DMZ which would establish qualification for the Imjin Scout Badge. The Imjin Scout patch was authorized in 1965 after a soldier completed a 22 day course at the Advanced Combat Training Academy at Camp Sitman near the DMZ. In 1967 things changed and soldiers who patrolled the DMZ were allowed to wear the Imjin Scout patch without taking the combat course and the gold colored DMZ was added to the patch in early 1967. The Imjin Scout patch was worn until I believe 1992. As the Korean War is the forgotten war, and the aftermath even more so, we should all keep in mind that nearly 100 American soldiers have been killed and I believe at least another 150 have been wounded defending the DMZ since june of 1953. The most infamous was when Captain Bonifas and Lt Jarret, see photo, were hacked to death by Korean border guards in 1976 while the two officers were leading a tree trimming detail on the 38th Parallel. Being that I spent 3 months of my life patrolling the DMZ, but did not have the honor to wear the Imjin Scout patch I would be honored to have the shirt in this post in my collection. So, if you have one for sale let me know. "Keep Up the Fire of the Manchu Warriors" Charlie 33 Delta out.
