jmar Posted July 15, 2011 Share #28 Posted July 15, 2011 Outstanding find Kurt! Great job on the research too. Nothing like finding such a beautiful medal and being able to re-unite it with it's history. Thanks for sharing! Joe
History Man Posted November 2, 2013 Share #29 Posted November 2, 2013 The engraving on that DFC is beautiful and definitely mimics the USN/USMC style engraving. Great group! Philip

flytiger Posted May 30, 2015 Share #33 Posted May 30, 2015 Whoa! Sorry I missed that on ebay!!! A little side story. My Father was in the 345th and his last ( extra) mission was Ploesti. Years ago ( many) I asked about his DFC for the mission. He said since every one on the mission received at least a DFC that they did not have enough to present and leave pinned on at awards formation. Instead the medal was pinned or attached, handshake, medal removed, and presenters moved on to the next man. His medal was to be a 1st OLC by the way as a DFC awarded on his 3rd mission for doing most of the flying when AC KIA and CP WIA. He was TT/Eng in "BlackJack" from 4th Mission to Ploesti. His DFC which he received sometime after return to CONUS was lost after the war. Nice pair, if you decide to move it on I would be interested!
